IMMIGRATION

This nation was founded on immigration; coming from other countries to make a better life is the bedrock principle of our democracy. We know that America can still be the land of possibilities, but we also know that our system does not support those possibilities. When someone seeking asylum has to wait months or even years, we have to realize that our system is broken.

A streamlined path to citizenship is not only attainable but also morally right. Our immigration courts and case workers are backed up, and politicians scratch their heads, wondering how to fix this problem.

The fix is compassion—compassion to hire the correct number of people to ensure our immigration system is no longer the broken mess it has become. The security of our southern border and a path to citizenship are not mutually exclusive. We must ensure the proper number of border agents to secure the border while bolstering the immigration system workforce for those who want to become citizens of this great nation.
